Managing Registration for Pre-College Courses

February 4th, 2013
This tutorial helps Admissions administrators manage Pre-College courses on SVA.edu.

Prerequisites

For each course you will need its title and *section* number (CIP-0101-A).

Note 1: A section number is 10 characters long and always end in “-X”, like CIP-0101-A. This is different than a course number which is only 8 characters long (CIP-0101). You will need section numbers to add PreCollege courses to the website.

Note 2: You must check with Registrar to ensure each course section is set up in Colleague for PreCollege registration. In Colleague-speak this means that the course must have sec_location=”PC”. If this is not the case then online registration will not work. Before starting this process please verify Admissions’ list of courses has already been successfully processed by the Registrar. Don’t forget test each course after adding it to SVA.edu to make sure the redirect to WebAdvisor works correctly.

Step 1

Log into the CMS > navigate to the PreCollege page (Fall & Spring or Summer) > Edit Content > Accordion Menus > Course Offerings. To add a new course, start by adding a new row by clicking the Kitchen Sink button (1) and then the Add Row button (2). You can hover over any icon to see its function.

Step 2

Type in the name of the course on the left side > highlight it > make it a link by clicking the link button.

Step 3

Set the Link URL to the section number. Make sure there are no additional spaces to the right or left of the text in this field. From the Class dropdown menu, select course_link.

Step 4

Type in “Register” in the right column (does not have to be all uppercase). Select the text and from the Styles dropdown select orange_button_link.

Step 5

With the text still selected, make it a link. Set the Link URL to the section number and from the Class dropdown, select course_link_white. That’s it!

To Remove A Course

Step 1

To remove a course, simply click into its row and click the Remove Row button.

Managing Housing And Meal Plans

Step 1

Managing the housing and meal plans is done by setting custom variables in the HTML. To access these variables, click the HTML button.

Step 2

You only need pay attention to the highlighted lines. Here’s an explanation of each line:
  • PLEASE NOTE: Formerly, setting showRegister = true would show the register buttons on all course popups. That is no longer true.
  • In order for register buttons to display on course popups, you must add an id with the value showRegister to one html element on the page (it doesn’t matter which), like so:
  • <p id=”showRegister”><strong>Summer Course Offerings</strong></p>

Step 3

You only need pay attention to the highlighted lines. Here’s an explanation of each line:
  • term = “16/SU”: This variable must be defined as the current semester for the appropriate course data to be retrieved for course description and registration functionality.
  • showMealPlan = true: Setting this to true will show all meal plan options. Setting this to false will hide all meal plan options.
  • showHousingDouble = true: Setting this to true will show the register buttons for double room housing. Setting this to false will hide all registration buttons for all double rooms.
  • showHousingTriple = true: Setting this to true will show the register buttons for triple room housing. Setting this to false will hide all registration buttons for all triple rooms.
So as housing fills up, one only modify these settings to properly display the correct housing options on the site.
