Creating a Poster Page

April 5th, 2012
Poster pages are standalone, fully customizable pages that relate to a very specific topic. Poster pages, typically, do not fit into the current hierarchy of the site. They can be used for a variety of different topics, such as newsletters, press resources, and events. Poster pages are also great for temporary pages. Since poster pages are fully independent, they do not fit into the navigation links, so you can choose to create a poster page from practically anywhere on the site.

Step-by-Step Instructions »

Log in to the CMS.

Once you have logged in successfully, you are directed to the CMS Dashboard.

In this tutorial, I am going to cover two ways to create a poster page. The first way, is to hover over the Utility Sections tab, and click “Poster Pages.”

You will see a listing of the current poster pages that exist. In this view, you can edit, preview, publish, unpublish, delete and schedule a poster page. It is important that you only make changes to the poster pages you create.

At the bottom of the list, click “Add Poster Page.”

A modal window will pop up asking you what type of page you would like to create. In this tutorial, we are going to create a Basic page. If you would like more information on the other two options (Image Gallery  and Video Gallery), pop on over to Website Specifications.

Click “Basic.”

Now you should see the familiar interface when creating or editing other pages. Add the page content and load the appropriate modules, just like you would for other pages. If this is greek to you, fly on over to the Creating a Page tutorial. It explains all of the tabs and their function.

Now that you have all of your information entered, click Preview to make sure it is ready for publishing. When you are finished reviewing the preview, click the blue box with an “x” in the top right corner of the page.

If everything is copacetic, click Publish Changes

To take a look at your new page, click View This Page

You will see, the appropriate modules were loaded according to the content you added. You can rearrange them in the same fashion as other pages. For a refresher on the new, novel world of modules, slide on over to Modules & Their Cascading Effect.

Now that your page is created, let’s discuss future editing. You can always come back and make further edits, unpublish it, and other options by going back to the CMS Dashboard, hovering over Utility Sections and clicking Poster Pages.

In this section, you can search for your page, or filter the results by clicking the column name.

As Promised

The other way to create a poster page is to login to the cms and click View Site. In the top contextual menu, click the Create a Poster Page button. All instructions are the same for this method. This button exists at the top of all pages, so you are never that far away from creating a poster page.
